"Over the past 60 years, numerous Western Slopers have gathered to hike, climb, ski, explore, and enjoy the adjacent mountains, canyons, and mesas. The Western Slope group of the CMC welcomes other club members to join them in their activities and is proud to be a part of the state organization which will in another two years be celebrating its centennial."

Curtis Martin, Principal Investigator-The Colorado Wickiup Project Dominquez Archaeological Research Group (DARG).
The Colorado Wickiup Project Wickiups—expedient brush shelters—and other aboriginal wooden features such as tree platforms and brush fences, although now rare, were once commonplace in Colorado, where a majority of the surviving features can be associated with the Ute Indians. The Colorado Wickiup Project (CWP) has been conducting a program of comprehensive field documentation of aboriginal wooden feature sites in the state since 2004. The project, to date, has visited 58 wooden feature sites and documented 366 features. The tree-ring dating of these wooden features, and the associated artifacts, have provided unprecedented information about the last chapter of the sovereign Utes in western Colorado, with off-reservation sites dating well into the Twentieth Century.
Curtis’ presentations include many stories from “the field” and numerous PowerPoint slides of these incredible features and artifacts. American National Bank. Downtown GJ 6th and Rood. 7 PM. The Pioneer Room.
